Intermodal transport explained

Recently two publications on intermodal transport have been issued: the factsheet “Intermodal transport, Co-modality starts here” and the brochure “Intermodal transport from a Dutch perspective”. These editions are a cooperation project between the Shortsea Promotion Centre Holland, Rail Cargo information Netherlands and the Inland Shipping Information Agency.

The goal of these publications is to raise awareness on the possibilities and developments in intermodal transport (to use more modalities in one logistical chain) with logistic service providers, shippers and authorities.

The factsheet explains the buzz word intermodal transport and describes the advantages. By combining shortsea, barge, rail and road in a smart way, the logistical chain can be optimised. This is not only smart financially, but also good for the environment and will diminish traffic jams.

The brochure offers extensive – especially statistical – information on intermodal transport in The Netherland as well as Europe, but also on environment and intermodal transport possibilities. The brochure however is not a mass dull of figures. An infographic elaborates on what intermodal transport is and in ‘best practices’ users explain why they choose this combination of transport.
