Overview intermodal terminals in Europe with Google Earth

The Dutch rail freight promotion centre, Rail Cargo information Netherlands, has recently introduced a new tool. It concerns a European overview of intermodal rail terminals. The overview can be downloaded for free at www.railcargo.nl. It consists of a special layer on ‘Google Earth’. In total more than 380 rail terminals are listed.

The overview shows the location and contact details of intermodal terminals in most European countries. In Europe almost every intermodal terminal with a rail connection is listed. For the Netherlands also the barge and shortsea terminals are available. 

Max Philips, Director of Rail Cargo:” Potential customers of intermodal services are interested in the availability of terminals which correspond to their transportation flows. Until now this information was very difficult to obtain. Collecting this information would benefit the rail freight market in the Netherlands and Europe and also make the market more transparent.”

With Google Earth it is possible to zoom in at any location worldwide. In case you find a location of interest, you can simply mark it. Max Philips:” That’s exactly what we did as well. We created our own layer of interesting locations (intermodal terminals) and we have added the contact details of the intermodal terminals.
