Husa Transportation Group takes over RaR and SRS RailService

The Husa Transportation Group has taken over the Germany railway companies Rent-a-Rail (RaR) and SRS RailService. The acquisition is the initial, important step in Husa's ‘Stepping Stone’ strategy. The objective is to acquire a strategic position on the German rail freight transport market through cooperation with and the taking over of mainly regionally-oriented players on the German market.

About RaR and SRS RailService
RaR, which is based in southern Germany, employs 45 staff and focuses on the 'last mile' distribution of wagons to and from end users. Furthermore, RaR rents out rolling stock and works for rail construction contractors. The company has a fleet of eight heavy-duty locomotives and 15 smaller, shunting locomotives. RaR's founder, Simon Scherer, will also be joining Husa. The second company acquired, SRS, is a trading company with limited operational activities. The company does have a license for the German rail network however.

Achieving growth
Parallel to the takeover of RaR and SRS RailService, Husa has founded a German holding company: Husa Transportation Deutschland GmbH which is based in Duisburg. This is where all current and future German activities will be lodged. Husa has set itself the goal of developing into a serious player on the international rail freight market. Husa has recruited Thomas Walker, formerly of rail freight operator Veolia Cargo Deutschland and Wolfgang Bahle of Ahaus Alstätter Eisenbahn (AAE) to develop the German activities and achieve the desired growth.
